PUJA

Performing a puja is a traditional Hindu ritual that involves offering prayers, devotion, and reverence to deities, ancestors, and other divine entities. Puja is an integral part of Hinduism and is conducted to seek blessings, express gratitude, and establish a connection with the spiritual realm. Here's a basic guide on how to perform a simple puja:

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Image or idol of the deity you wish to worship
Offerings like flowers, fruits, incense, lamps (diyas), sweets, and water
Puja items like a bell, a conch shell, a small plate, a bowl for water, and a lamp
Steps to Perform a Basic Puja:

Choose a Clean and Quiet Space: Find a clean and peaceful area where you can set up your puja space.

SET UP THE ALTAR:

Place a clean cloth or mat on a table or raised surface to serve as the altar.
Put the image or idol of the deity in the center.

LAMP (DIYA):

Begin by lighting the lamp (diya) as a symbol of dispelling darkness and ignorance. You can use ghee or oil to light the lamp.

RING THE BELL:

Ring a bell to signify the beginning of the puja. The sound of the bell is believed to create positive vibrations and invite divine presence.

FLOWERS:

Offer fresh flowers to the deity as a symbol of beauty and devotion. You can also sprinkle water on the flowers as a form of purification.

INCENSE STICK:

Light incense sticks and offer them to the deity. The fragrance of incense represents the pleasing aspect of the puja.

FOOD (PRASAD):

Place a small amount of fruits, sweets, or other vegetarian food items as an offering. This is known as prasad and is considered blessed after being offered to the deity.

AARTI:

Hold a plate with a lighted lamp and circulate it around the deity's image while singing or chanting devotional hymns. This is called "aarti" and signifies reverence.

MEDITATION:

Take a few moments to pray and meditate, expressing your gratitude, wishes, or concerns to the deity. This is a personal and intimate part of the puja.

BLESSINGS:

Fold your hands and bow down before the deity, seeking their blessings and guidance in your life.

PUJA:

Ring the bell again to conclude the puja.
You can distribute the prasad to others as a way of sharing blessings.
